Ingredients

  • 300ml apple juice

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • Pinch dried cinnamon

  • 4 pears, peeled & stalk still intact

  • Currants

  • Sunflower seeds

Preparation

  1. Put the apple juice and cinnamon in a saucepan then add the pears.

  2. With the lid on, cook them at a gentle simmer for around 20 minutes - the pears should be a little soft.

  3. Take out the pears and cinnamon stick, but keep simmering the apple juice for another 5 or 10 minutes until it becomes like a syrup.

  4. Cut a little off the bottom of each pear so they will stand on a plate.

  5. Using a skewer, make two little holes in each pear and put the currants inside - these will be the ghost’s eyes.

  6. Underneath, make a small circle with sunflower seeds, pushing each seed into the pear so it stays in place - this will be the ghost’s mouth.

  7. Drizzle each pear with some of the apple juice mixture, then serve.
